Navigating the Post-Sales Relationship

Your relationship with customers after you close a deal can feel a lot like dating. First you ask them out (the initial sale), and then the fun begins—the awkward “get to know you phase.”

But it doesn’t have to be awkward.

The better you get to know your date (customer) and cater to their needs, you’ll be smooth sailing and locking in that Facebook Official status in no time!

So how can you nurture that newly transformed customer (date) into a full-fledged relationship? By continuing to impress them and giving them what they want.

Schmooze Them

Impressing a customer is much like wooing a date. After you ask them out, you must continue to get to know them, especially if you want to see them again.  

Nurture that relationship, and provide the “tools” necessary for it to grow. Much like customers, a date will drop off if they aren’t getting anything out of the relationship.

Start by creating a game plan. How are you going to seal the deal?

It’s a good idea to understand their history. Does your date have a past of dating (a product similar to yours)? If so, find out why they “broke up,” AKA what went wrong.

Keep record of their previous relationships, so you know what to do better!

Keep a Track Record

Beyond keeping a historical record, you’ll want to keep note of how the relationship is going, so you know how to improve.

Stay on top of important milestones such as your first date, their birthday, and even your anniversary. Imagine forgetting your anniversary! Talk about a disaster!

And if things get rocky, step in and curb the turbulence. By understanding your date’s (customer’s) likes and dislikes, you’ll be able to cultivate, develop, and grow the relationship.
